Lecture Hans Wegner Gent (Gand)

9 10 2008

Yesterday, (08-10-08) Tim, Annelies, Nore and I went to the Hans wegner lecture by doctor Koenraad Van Cleempoel.
We asked along one of the Retail students (and Annelies’ boyfriend) named Sidney.
We thought it would not harm him to get out and sniff some culture.

First, we visited the other exhibitions:

“Design with a smile”

“Uit de reserves”

50’s and 60’s (selected items out of the museums reserves)

Willy Van Der Meeren                                     Jules Wabbes

“Hella Jongerius”

Then we visited the small exhibition about Hans Wegner.

We left the museum and after a bite to eat, we returned for the lecture.

We where all pleasantly surprised by the lecture given by Professor Koenraad Van Cleempoel. His speaking about Wegners chairs, the context in Danish and world furniture design and the design process gave us a clear view on his life and work.

The lecture ended with the touching, testing and most of all admiring some of Wegners chairs. We also received a DVD with a short movie about the production process of one of Wegner’s chairs.

Annelies in full excitement about the Sawhorse chair (ook wel Dolfijnstoel)

We would have gone home straight away if it wasn’t that we were attacked by pink elephants.

We had to investigate the appearance of those elephants a little more. This investigation had to be carried out in combination with some good jazz music. Our appreciation to Kris Pint for directing us to the best places to investigate those pink elephants. A few hours later, we finally could return home safely to arrive around 04:30 AM.

Gent (Gand) by night

Yours truly,

Willem
